Description
Return depth × (bottomArea + topArea + sqrt(bottomArea × topArea)) / 3, requiring topArea at least bottomArea.
Simple site geometry approximates an area, section, or volume using ideal shapes. Coherent length units and the distinction between signed and unsigned quantities determine the result's meaning.
Return depth × (bottomArea + topArea + sqrt(bottomArea × topArea)) / 3, requiring topArea at least bottomArea.
When to use this tool
Use Rain Garden Ponding Volume Term when you need one transparent landscape geometry component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter bottomArea, topArea, depth. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read volume. Use the output convention below.
Return depth × (bottomArea + topArea + sqrt(bottomArea × topArea)) / 3, requiring topArea at least bottomArea.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| bottomArea | Bottom Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| topArea | Top Area | Required. Finite number. |
| depth | Depth | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| volume | Volume | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is an ideal similar-section frustum volume; arbitrary basin shapes, infiltration, and stormwater performance are not modeled.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a surveyed terrain or construction model when irregular shapes, settlement, drainage, and structural performance matter.
