Permeable Paving Joint Void Share Tool

Rectangular repeating module; joint fraction describes plan area, not hydraulic infiltration capacity.

Description

Divide paverWidth × paverLength by (paverWidth + joint) × (paverLength + joint) for paverFraction and subtract from one for jointFraction.

An area share depends on the chosen footprint and whether overlapping or excluded regions enter the denominator. Geometric coverage does not automatically imply functional capacity.

Divide paverWidth × paverLength by (paverWidth + joint) × (paverLength + joint) for paverFraction and subtract from one for jointFraction.

When to use this tool

Use Permeable Paving Joint Void Share when you need a declared area fraction or overlap correction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter paverWidth, paverLength, joint. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read jointFraction, paverFraction. Use the output convention below.

Divide paverWidth × paverLength by (paverWidth + joint) × (paverLength + joint) for paverFraction and subtract from one for jointFraction.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes a repeated rectangular grid; joint area is not automatically water-permeable void or infiltration capacity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the measured boundaries and the relevant drainage, planting, or architectural model before interpreting the share.
