Takeoff Impulse Velocity

Convert net takeoff impulse to velocity and ideal ballistic jump height.

Description

Net takeoff impulse changes vertical velocity under a constant-force model.

Net takeoff impulse changes vertical velocity under a constant-force model. The inferred velocity gives an ideal ballistic rise above takeoff.1

Convert net takeoff impulse to velocity and ideal ballistic jump height.

When to use Takeoff Impulse Velocity

Use this tool to convert net takeoff impulse to velocity and ideal ballistic jump height.

Prepare the measured movement, timing, load or preassigned score requested. Keep protocols, units, paired measurements and caller-selected thresholds consistent.

How to use Takeoff Impulse Velocity and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured movement, timing, load or preassigned score requested. Keep protocols, units, paired measurements and caller-selected thresholds consistent.
  2. Enter netVerticalForceN, pushOffSeconds, bodyMassKg, gravityMps2 using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read impulseNs, takeoffVelocityMps, ballisticHeightM. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
netVerticalForceNNet vertical force nnumberRequired
pushOffSecondsPush off secondsnumberRequired
bodyMassKgBody mass kgnumberRequired
gravityMps2Gravity mps 2numberRequired

Enter nonnegative net force and positive duration, mass and gravity. Return impulse, velocity and height in SI units.

impulse=netForce×time; velocity=impulse/mass; height=velocity²/(2g)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Net force must already subtract bodyweight. Initial velocity, force variation and technique are not modeled.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Flight Time Jump Height: Infer ballistic jump height from flight time and supplied gravitational acceleration. For a complementary task, use Reactive Strength Index: Compute reactive strength index from inferred jump height and ground contact time.
