Public Islamic Architecture Courtyard Ratio Tool

Rectangular courtyard and separate arcade-area proportions within a supplied complex footprint.

Loading tool…

Description

Multiply courtyardLength by courtyardWidth for openArea.

An area share depends on the chosen footprint and whether overlapping or excluded regions enter the denominator. Geometric coverage does not automatically imply functional capacity.

Multiply courtyardLength by courtyardWidth for openArea.

When to use this tool

Use Public Islamic Architecture Courtyard Ratio when you need a declared area fraction or overlap correction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter courtyardLength, courtyardWidth, complexFootprint, arcadeArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read openArea, courtyardFraction, courtyardWithArcadeFraction. Use the output convention below.

Multiply courtyardLength by courtyardWidth for openArea. Divide it by positive complexFootprint, then include arcadeArea for the second fraction.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Areas must be coherent and their sum within the footprint; the ratio does not infer architectural function or historical interpretation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the measured boundaries and the relevant drainage, planting, or architectural model before interpreting the share.
