Description
Return their signed difference divided by their sum.
A trade index or share compares values on a declared price, currency, period, and coverage basis. Changing a denominator or quote orientation can change the interpretation substantially.
Return their signed difference divided by their sum.
When to use this tool
Use Bilateral Flow Asymmetry Ratio when you need an explicit trade-ratio or index component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter outboundFlow, inboundFlow. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read signedAsymmetry. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative outboundFlow and inboundFlow with a positive finite sum. Return their signed difference divided by their sum.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| outboundFlow | Outbound Flow | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| inboundFlow | Inbound Flow | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| signedAsymmetry | Signed Asymmetry | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The result lies on a common flow basis between -1 and 1; direction, coverage, valuation, and causes of imbalance remain external.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
