Description
Group labels by lowercase language string and count distinct literal labels within each group.
A controlled vocabulary separates concept identifiers, labels, languages, and hierarchy edges. Distinct literal labels and repeated identical records need different consistency checks.
Group labels by lowercase language string and count distinct literal labels within each group.
When to use this tool
Use SKOS Preferred Label Language Budget when you need a scoped vocabulary-label or ancestry diagnostic.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter labels, languages. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read duplicateLanguages, maximumPerLanguage. Use the output convention below.
Group labels by lowercase language string and count distinct literal labels within each group. Return languages with more than one distinct label and the maximum group count.1
SKOS constrains a resource to one preferred-label value for each language tag. Repeating an identical literal does not create a second distinct value; different labels under the same normalized language need review.2
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| languages | Languages | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| duplicateLanguages | Duplicate Languages | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| maximumPerLanguage | Maximum Per Language | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is a narrow preferred-label check without language-tag validation, concept grouping, or complete SKOS validation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Validate the complete vocabulary model and source identifiers, including language and hierarchy policies.
