Description
Multiply sourceAmount by positive unitFactor for expectedTarget and subtract from targetReported for residual.
A supplied unit factor translates a quantity to a declared target basis. Historical and laboratory unit names can conceal different regional or material-specific definitions.
Multiply sourceAmount by positive unitFactor for expectedTarget and subtract from targetReported for residual.
When to use this tool
Use Material Unit Conversion Residual when you need a transparent conversion using factors already established.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sourceAmount, unitFactor, targetReported. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read expectedTarget, residual. Use the output convention below.
Multiply sourceAmount by positive unitFactor for expectedTarget and subtract from targetReported for residual.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| sourceAmount | Source Amount | Required. Finite number. |
| unitFactor | Unit Factor | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| targetReported | Target Reported | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| expectedTarget | Expected Target | Required. Finite number. |
| residual | Signed residual using the convention in the calculation paragraph. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The conversion and quantity basis are supplied; negative values are allowed and no material identity or acceptance tolerance is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
