Work Station Cycle Margin

Compare an explicit station cycle observation with a caller-supplied cycle allowance.

Description

Compare a recorded workstation cycle with a supplied allowance.

Production quantities distinguish planned time, operating time, setup, cycle time, demand, first-pass good units and accepted rework. A local availability term is not complete OEE, and equal time-per-unit arithmetic is not measured capacity. Counts and durations must share one nonoverlapping accounting scope.

Compare a recorded workstation cycle with a supplied allowance.

When to use this tool

Use Work Station Cycle Margin when you already have allowedCycleSeconds, observedCycleSeconds and need to compare a recorded workstation cycle with a supplied allowance.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter allowedCycleSeconds, observedCycleSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read marginSeconds, exceedsAllowance. Inspect exceedsAllowance before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative allowed/observed seconds; margin=allowed-observed and exceedsAllowance means observed>allowed.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
allowedCycleSecondsAllowed Cycle SecondsRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
observedCycleSecondsObserved Cycle SecondsRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
marginSecondsMargin SecondsRequired. Finite number.
exceedsAllowanceExceeds AllowanceRequired. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Equality is allowed; no appropriate production pace, ergonomics, actual capacity or safe cycle is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the full time study, production ledger and process definition before interpreting performance. Use a complete capacity, OEE or workflow analysis when bottlenecks, quality, concurrency and operating constraints matter beyond one local term.
