Work Element Time Allowance Tool

Apply an explicit allowance as a share of basic or total time; the two conventions are distinct.

Loading tool…

Description

For a basic-time allowance multiply basicTime by 1 + allowanceFraction.

Work-time accounting separates productive time, allowances, overlap, and delays. Changing the allowance denominator or moving work outside downtime changes the interpretation of a calculated time.

For a basic-time allowance multiply basicTime by 1 + allowanceFraction.

When to use this tool

Use Work Element Time Allowance when you need one explicit work-element or timing component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter basicTime, allowanceFraction, basedOnTotalTime. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read allowedTime. Use the output convention below.

For a basic-time allowance multiply basicTime by 1 + allowanceFraction. For an allowance based on total time divide by 1 - allowanceFraction, requiring it below one.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The fraction's denominator basis changes the result; no labor standard, rest requirement, or workplace suitability is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated task study and resource plan, considering variability, ergonomics, and safe work requirements.
