Time Study Rating Allowance Factor Tool

Distinguish an allowance added to normal time from an allowance expressed as a fraction of total standard time.

Description

Multiply observedTime by positive ratingFactor for normalTime.

Work-time accounting separates productive time, allowances, overlap, and delays. Changing the allowance denominator or moving work outside downtime changes the interpretation of a calculated time.

Multiply observedTime by positive ratingFactor for normalTime.

When to use this tool

Use Time Study Rating Allowance Factor when you need one explicit work-element or timing component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter observedTime, ratingFactor, allowanceFraction, allowanceOfNormal. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read normalTime, standardTime. Use the output convention below.

Multiply observedTime by positive ratingFactor for normalTime. Apply allowanceFraction as a multiplier of normal time or as a fraction of total time for standardTime.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Allowance is in [0, 1) and the basis is explicit; ratings, worker capability, and lawful or safe work standards are not determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated task study and resource plan, considering variability, ergonomics, and safe work requirements.
