Description
Calculate an availability term from planned production time and downtime.
Production quantities distinguish planned time, operating time, setup, cycle time, demand, first-pass good units and accepted rework. A local availability term is not complete OEE, and equal time-per-unit arithmetic is not measured capacity. Counts and durations must share one nonoverlapping accounting scope.
Calculate an availability term from planned production time and downtime.
When to use this tool
Use Production OEE Availability Term when you already have plannedProductionMinutes, downtimeMinutes and need to calculate an availability term from planned production time and downtime.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter plannedProductionMinutes, downtimeMinutes. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read operatingMinutes, availability. Use the output convention below.
Require planned minutes>0 and downtime within planned; operating=planned-downtime and availability=operating/planned.1
OEE combines availability, performance and quality. The returned time ratio supplies only availability, so it cannot by itself be reported as overall equipment effectiveness.2
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| plannedProductionMinutes | Planned Production Minutes | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| downtimeMinutes | Downtime Minutes | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| operatingMinutes | Operating Minutes | Required. Finite number. |
| availability | (planned-downtime)/planned, a decimal fraction for availability only; performance and quality are absent. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is availability only, not complete OEE. Planned time, downtime classification, actual performance and product quality are supplied or outside the calculation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the full time study, production ledger and process definition before interpreting performance. Use a complete capacity, OEE or workflow analysis when bottlenecks, quality, concurrency and operating constraints matter beyond one local term.
