Process First Pass Yield Factor

Calculate first-pass yield from explicit entered and no-rework pass counts, distinguishing an empty input count.

Description

Calculate first-pass yield from supplied entered and unreworked-good counts.

Production quantities distinguish planned time, operating time, setup, cycle time, demand, first-pass good units and accepted rework. A local availability term is not complete OEE, and equal time-per-unit arithmetic is not measured capacity. Counts and durations must share one nonoverlapping accounting scope.

Calculate first-pass yield from supplied entered and unreworked-good counts.

When to use this tool

Use Process First Pass Yield Factor when you already have enteredUnits, passedWithoutRework and need to calculate first-pass yield from supplied entered and unreworked-good counts.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter enteredUnits, passedWithoutRework. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read firstPassYield, firstPassFailures, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require safe whole entered>=0 and passedWithoutRework in [0,entered]; return passed/entered, or zero with defined=false for zero entered, plus entered-passed failures.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
enteredUnitsEntered UnitsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
passedWithoutReworkPassed Without ReworkRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
firstPassYieldFirst Pass YieldRequired. Finite number.
firstPassFailuresFirst Pass FailuresRequired. Safe integer.
definedFalse for zero enteredUnits, with firstPassYield=0 placeholder; this is not measured zero yield.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The zero-input yield is undefined rather than a measured zero. No quality inspection, rework policy or process performance is independently established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the full time study, production ledger and process definition before interpreting performance. Use a complete capacity, OEE or workflow analysis when bottlenecks, quality, concurrency and operating constraints matter beyond one local term.
