Description
Calculate supplied empty-return travel distance across recorded trips.
Production quantities distinguish planned time, operating time, setup, cycle time, demand, first-pass good units and accepted rework. A local availability term is not complete OEE, and equal time-per-unit arithmetic is not measured capacity. Counts and durations must share one nonoverlapping accounting scope.
Calculate supplied empty-return travel distance across recorded trips.
When to use this tool
Use Material Handling Empty Return Distance Term when you already have returnDistance, trips and need to calculate supplied empty-return travel distance across recorded trips.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter returnDistance, trips. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read totalEmptyDistance. Use the output convention below.
Require returnDistance>=0 and safe whole trips>=0; return distance*trips.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| returnDistance | Return Distance | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| trips | Trips | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| totalEmptyDistance | Total Empty Distance | Required. Finite number. |

}
} Limitations and assumptions
- Assumes the same distance per trip; no route, load, actual movement, cost or handling safety is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the full time study, production ledger and process definition before interpreting performance. Use a complete capacity, OEE or workflow analysis when bottlenecks, quality, concurrency and operating constraints matter beyond one local term.
