Line Balance One Station Idle Term Tool

One station load relative to supplied cycle time; no precedence-constrained line-balancing optimization.

Description

Sum taskTimes for stationLoad, subtract from positive cycleTime for idleTime, and divide by cycleTime for loadFraction.

Production capacity terms compare available time, demand, cycle time, and buffer use. A scalar average or count budget can hide task constraints and process variability.

Sum taskTimes for stationLoad, subtract from positive cycleTime for idleTime, and divide by cycleTime for loadFraction.

When to use this tool

Use Line Balance One Station Idle Term when you need a transparent capacity, takt, or workload component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter taskTimes, cycleTime. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read stationLoad, idleTime, loadFraction, overload. Inspect overload before interpreting the associated values.

Sum taskTimes for stationLoad, subtract from positive cycleTime for idleTime, and divide by cycleTime for loadFraction. Mark overload only when load strictly exceeds cycle.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative idle time is retained; precedence, operator availability, task variability, and actual line balance are not solved.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Validate the complete process, resources, and variability before converting a local budget into a production plan.
