Kanban Safety Container Rounding Gap Tool

Deterministic demand-times-lead-time kanban count with explicit safety uplift and whole-container ceiling.

Description

Multiply demandPerDay by leadDays and 1 + safetyFraction for requiredUnits.

Production capacity terms compare available time, demand, cycle time, and buffer use. A scalar average or count budget can hide task constraints and process variability.

Multiply demandPerDay by leadDays and 1 + safetyFraction for requiredUnits.

When to use this tool

Use Kanban Safety Container Rounding Gap when you need a transparent capacity, takt, or workload component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter demandPerDay, leadDays, safetyFraction, containerUnits. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read requiredUnits, unroundedContainers, containers, excessCapacity. Use the output convention below.

Multiply demandPerDay by leadDays and 1 + safetyFraction for requiredUnits. Divide by containerUnits and round upward for containers, returning the resulting excessCapacity.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Safety fraction is an explicit uplift, not a service-level estimate; no demand distribution, replenishment feasibility, or inventory policy is fitted.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Validate the complete process, resources, and variability before converting a local budget into a production plan.
