Description
Multiply nonnegative occupancy by nonnegative duration for occupancyTime.
Production capacity terms compare available time, demand, cycle time, and buffer use. A scalar average or count budget can hide task constraints and process variability.
Multiply nonnegative occupancy by nonnegative duration for occupancyTime.
When to use this tool
Use Buffer Occupancy Area Term when you need a transparent capacity, takt, or workload component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter occupancy, duration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read occupancyTime. Use the output convention below.

| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| occupancy | Occupancy | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| duration | Duration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| occupancyTime | Occupancy Time | Required. Finite number. |
{
"input": {
"occupancy": 4,
"duration": 3
},
"output": {
"occupancyTime": 12
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- The output has occupancy-times-duration units; one constant-level term is not a time average or a full buffer history.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
