Hinge Leaf Flush Offset

Subtract an explicit reference surface coordinate from a hinge-leaf surface on the same section axis.

Description

Measure a hinge leaf's signed flush offset from a reference surface.

Product geometry depends on reference surfaces, mating dimensions, signed offsets, compression assumptions and material behavior. A clearance comparison or nominal engagement depth describes a limited scalar relation. Physical fit, ergonomics, sealing, strength and electrical compatibility need the complete product and its verified conditions.

Measure a hinge leaf's signed flush offset from a reference surface.

When to use this tool

Use Hinge Leaf Flush Offset when you already have referenceSurfaceCoordinate, hingeLeafSurfaceCoordinate and need to measure a hinge leaf's signed flush offset from a reference surface.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter referenceSurfaceCoordinate, hingeLeafSurfaceCoordinate. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.

Return hingeLeafSurfaceCoordinate-referenceSurfaceCoordinate in a common coordinate/unit basis.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
referenceSurfaceCoordinateReference Surface CoordinateRequired. Finite number.
hingeLeafSurfaceCoordinateHinge Leaf Surface CoordinateRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
signedGapSigned GapRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • No hinge, assembly fit, motion, tolerance or structural adequacy is evaluated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect actual component specifications and a complete dimensioned assembly for design decisions. Add material, loading, tolerance and operating-condition analysis when a local gap, radius ratio or supplied compression fraction cannot establish performance.
