Bolt Circle Clearance Gap Tool

Report radial and neighboring-hole clearances for an ideal equally spaced bolt circle; no strength assessment.

Description

Subtract boltCircleRadius and holeRadius from enclosingRadius for radialMargin.

A signed fit margin compares available space with an object and explicit allowances. Volume sufficiency, radial gaps, and diametral clearance are different conditions.

Subtract boltCircleRadius and holeRadius from enclosingRadius for radialMargin.

When to use this tool

Use Bolt Circle Clearance Gap when you need one transparent product fit or travel-margin term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter boltCircleRadius, holeRadius, enclosingRadius, boltCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read radialMargin, adjacentHoleMargin. Use the output convention below.

Subtract boltCircleRadius and holeRadius from enclosingRadius for radialMargin. For boltCount at least two, subtract two hole radii from 2 × boltCircleRadius × sin(π/boltCount) for adjacentHoleMargin.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes equally spaced circular holes; negative margins report overlap and no fastener strength, edge-distance standard, or structural safety is checked.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check complete three-dimensional geometry, tolerances, materials, and operating conditions before judging actual fit or safety.
