Description

Subtract shaftDiameter from holeDiameter for clearance.

A signed fit margin compares available space with an object and explicit allowances. Volume sufficiency, radial gaps, and diametral clearance are different conditions.

Subtract shaftDiameter from holeDiameter for clearance.

When to use this tool

Use Shaft Hole Clearance Sign when you need one transparent product fit or travel-margin term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter holeDiameter, shaftDiameter. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read clearance, fit. Use the output convention below.

Subtract shaftDiameter from holeDiameter for clearance. Classify positive, negative, and exact-zero differences as clearance, interference, and line-to-line.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The gap is diametral, not radial; tolerances, temperature, surface finish, and standardized fit classes are not applied.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check complete three-dimensional geometry, tolerances, materials, and operating conditions before judging actual fit or safety.
