Immune Assay Background Well Subtraction Tool

Subtract explicit immune-assay background-well signal from sample-well signal in matching units without clipping negative residuals.

Description

Subtract a supplied background-well signal from a sample-well signal.

Immunological records separate assay controls, marker codes, censoring, replicate identity and instrument signal conventions. Background-relative ratios need their exact control definition and may extend beyond a unit interval. Flow-detector quantities retain their native instrument units; a local ratio or source label does not classify a cell or establish immunity.

When to use this tool

Use Immune Assay Background Well Subtraction when you already have backgroundWellSignal, sampleWellSignal and need to subtract a supplied background-well signal from a sample-well signal.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter backgroundWellSignal, sampleWellSignal. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.

Return sampleWellSignal-backgroundWellSignal in compatible signal units.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
backgroundWellSignalBackground Well SignalRequired. Finite number.
sampleWellSignalSample Well SignalRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • No wells are read, background validity checked or assay/clinical conclusion inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the original assay, control, detector and gating records for substantive interpretation. Use the complete validated analysis with explicit units and censoring treatment; a source token, local subtraction or normalization term does not establish a biological or clinical conclusion.
