Wetbulb Precipitation Reference Temperature Gap Tool

Compare caller-supplied wet/dry-bulb observations; no psychrometric wet-bulb estimate or weather classification is made.

Description

Return dryBulb-wetBulb as depression, wetBulb-referenceWetBulb as referenceGap, and physicalOrder for wetBulb no greater than dryBulb.

Weather measurements depend on a common temperature scale, clock, or reference convention. A numeric consistency comparison can expose a difference without establishing which observation is accurate or predicting the weather.

Return dryBulb-wetBulb as depression, wetBulb-referenceWetBulb as referenceGap, and physicalOrder for wetBulb no greater than dryBulb.

When to use this tool

Use Wetbulb Precipitation Reference Temperature Gap when you need a supplied weather-reference difference or consistency flag.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wetBulb, dryBulb, referenceWetBulb. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read depression, referenceGap, physicalOrder. Inspect physicalOrder before interpreting the associated values.

Return dryBulb-wetBulb as depression, wetBulb-referenceWetBulb as referenceGap, and physicalOrder for wetBulb no greater than dryBulb.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Temperatures share one scale; a false order flag is diagnostic and no humidity, precipitation phase, sensor correction, or weather forecast is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review instrument calibration, observation conditions, and the complete meteorological method separately.
