Description
Multiply nonnegative hours by max(0, freezingReference-temperature) for freezingDegreeHours and by nonnegative coefficient for indexedExposure.
Degree-time indices accumulate temperature differences above or below a supplied threshold. Multiplying by a model coefficient creates a conditional estimate whose units depend on the time basis and coefficient.
Multiply nonnegative hours by max(0, freezingReference-temperature) for freezingDegreeHours and by nonnegative coefficient for indexedExposure.
When to use this tool
Use Soil Frost Freezing Degreehour Term when you need one explicit temperature-index or threshold component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter temperature, freezingReference, hours, coefficient. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read freezingDegreeHours, indexedExposure. Use the output convention below.

} Limitations and assumptions
- Temperature differences use one scale and coefficient determines the index unit; this exposure term does not predict frost depth, soil damage, or safe conditions.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
