Description
Multiply nonnegative snowMass and suppliedHeatCapacity by max(0, -temperatureBelowZero) for coldContent.
Degree-time indices accumulate temperature differences above or below a supplied threshold. Multiplying by a model coefficient creates a conditional estimate whose units depend on the time basis and coefficient.
Multiply nonnegative snowMass and suppliedHeatCapacity by max(0, -temperatureBelowZero) for coldContent.
When to use this tool
Use Snow Layer Refreeze Capacity Term when you need one explicit temperature-index or threshold component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter snowMass, temperatureBelowZero, suppliedHeatCapacity, latentHeat, liquidMass. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read coldContent, freezeCapacity. Use the output convention below.
Multiply nonnegative snowMass and suppliedHeatCapacity by max(0, -temperatureBelowZero) for coldContent. Divide by positive latentHeat and cap by nonnegative liquidMass for freezeCapacity.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| snowMass | Snow Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| temperatureBelowZero | Signed temperature relative to the freezing reference; a negative value produces cold content. | Required. Finite number. |
| suppliedHeatCapacity | Nonnegative specific heat capacity in energy per mass per degree. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| latentHeat | Positive latent heat in the same energy per mass basis. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| liquidMass | Liquid Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| coldContent | Cold Content | Required. Finite number. |
| freezeCapacity | Freeze Capacity | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Despite its name, temperatureBelowZero is a signed temperature relative to zero and must be negative for a cold deficit. Heat capacity and latent heat need compatible per-mass units; kinetics and heat exchange are omitted.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
