Rainfall Interevent Drygap Split Tool

Calculate rainfall interevent drygap split from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return their difference and compare with the minimum using the supplied inclusive flag.

Event boundaries and partial observation intervals depend on a chosen endpoint convention. Equality at a supplied threshold may change a classification even when the underlying measurements are unchanged.

Return their difference and compare with the minimum using the supplied inclusive flag.

When to use this tool

Use Rainfall Interevent Drygap Split when you need to apply an explicit interval or event-separation rule.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter previousWetEnd, nextWetStart, minimumDryGap, inclusive. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read dryGap, newEvent. Inspect newEvent before interpreting the associated values.

Require nextWetStart no earlier than previousWetEnd and nonnegative minimumDryGap. Return their difference and compare with the minimum using the supplied inclusive flag.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All time quantities share a coordinate and unit; this local rule does not infer missing rainfall or a universal meteorological event definition.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Document the observation resolution and event-definition policy before comparing records from different sources.
