Hydrograph Event Boundary Token Tool

Classify one supplied hydrograph time under explicit event endpoint conventions.

Loading tool…

Description

Return inside, excluded-boundary, before, or after for time.

Event boundaries and partial observation intervals depend on a chosen endpoint convention. Equality at a supplied threshold may change a classification even when the underlying measurements are unchanged.

Return inside, excluded-boundary, before, or after for time.

When to use this tool

Use Hydrograph Event Boundary Token when you need to apply an explicit interval or event-separation rule.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter time, eventStart, eventEnd, includeStart, includeEnd. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read membership. Use the output convention below.

Require eventEnd no earlier than eventStart and apply independent start and end inclusion flags. Return inside, excluded-boundary, before, or after for time.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All coordinates share a time unit and origin; this classifies one supplied event interval without detecting events or interpreting precipitation or flood records.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Document the observation resolution and event-definition policy before comparing records from different sources.
