Rain Gauge Tip Count Half Interval Tool

Apply explicitly supplied half-tip allocation flags; no missing rainfall is estimated.

Description

Add one half-tip for each true boundary flag to nonnegative integer tips and multiply equivalentTips by nonnegative tipDepth.

Precipitation and evaporation records distinguish water depth, catchment area, volume, and observation duration. Converting among them requires coherent units and a clear measured or modeled basis.

Add one half-tip for each true boundary flag to nonnegative integer tips and multiply equivalentTips by nonnegative tipDepth.

When to use this tool

Use Rain Gauge Tip Count Half Interval when you need one explicit water-depth, volume, or accumulation component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter tips, tipDepth, startHalfTip, endHalfTip. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read equivalentTips, depth. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Both half-tip flags add; this is a supplied interval-allocation convention rather than reconstruction of actual tip times or rain intensity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check instrument records, unit conversions, temporal coverage, and a complete hydrologic model before interpreting runoff or water availability.
