Gauge Undercatch Supplied Wind Factor Tool

Caller-supplied multiplicative aerodynamic correction followed by additive wetting and evaporation losses; no instrument-specific wind model is fitted.

Description

Multiply nonnegative observedDepth by positive correctionFactor and add nonnegative wettingLoss and evaporationLoss.

Precipitation and evaporation records distinguish water depth, catchment area, volume, and observation duration. Converting among them requires coherent units and a clear measured or modeled basis.

Multiply nonnegative observedDepth by positive correctionFactor and add nonnegative wettingLoss and evaporationLoss.

When to use this tool

Use Gauge Undercatch Supplied Wind Factor when you need one explicit water-depth, volume, or accumulation component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter observedDepth, correctionFactor, wettingLoss, evaporationLoss. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read correctedDepth, addedDepth. Use the output convention below.

Multiply nonnegative observedDepth by positive correctionFactor and add nonnegative wettingLoss and evaporationLoss. Return correctedDepth and its difference from the observation.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The multiplicative factor is not constrained to exceed one; all loss terms share depth units and no gauge-, wind-, or precipitation-specific correction is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check instrument records, unit conversions, temporal coverage, and a complete hydrologic model before interpreting runoff or water availability.
