Description
Return rainDepth × subarea and subarea/totalArea.
Precipitation and evaporation records distinguish water depth, catchment area, volume, and observation duration. Converting among them requires coherent units and a clear measured or modeled basis.
Return rainDepth × subarea and subarea/totalArea.
When to use this tool
Use Rainfall Volume Area Share when you need one explicit water-depth, volume, or accumulation component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter rainDepth, subarea, totalArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read subareaVolume, share. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative rainDepth and subarea within positive totalArea. Return rainDepth × subarea and subarea/totalArea.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| rainDepth | Rain Depth | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| subarea | Subarea | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| totalArea | Total Area | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| subareaVolume | Subarea Volume | Required. Finite number. |
| share | Dimensionless share under the stated denominator and exclusion convention. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use coherent depth and area units for volume; the share uses geometric area and does not establish catchment-average rainfall or routed runoff.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check instrument records, unit conversions, temporal coverage, and a complete hydrologic model before interpreting runoff or water availability.
