EC MS CM Correction Factor
Normalize uncompensated solution EC to supplied reference temperature using sample-specific linear coefficients; an already compensated instrument bypass avoids double correction.
Description
Electrical conductivity varies with solution temperature.
Electrical conductivity varies with solution temperature. An already compensated instrument must bypass a second correction to avoid changing its reported reference value again.1
Normalize uncompensated solution EC to supplied reference temperature using sample-specific linear coefficients; an already compensated instrument bypass avoids double correction.
When to use EC MS CM Correction Factor
Use this tool to normalize uncompensated solution EC to supplied reference temperature using sample-specific linear coefficients; an already compensated instrument bypass avoids double correction.
Prepare the plant, nutrient, light or scheduling measurements for the intended crop and period. Keep paired records aligned and confirm units and supplied target values.
How to use EC MS CM Correction Factor and understand its results
- Prepare the plant, nutrient, light or scheduling measurements for the intended crop and period. Keep paired records aligned and confirm units and supplied target values.
- Enter observedEcMsPerCm, sampleTemperaturesC, referenceTemperatureC, relativeTemperatureCoefficientsPerDegree, instrumentAlreadyTemperatureCompensated using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read referenceEcMsPerCm. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| observedEcMsPerCm | Observed ec ms per cm | list of number | Required |
| sampleTemperaturesC | Sample temperatures c | list of number | Required |
| referenceTemperatureC | Reference temperature c | number | Required |
| relativeTemperatureCoefficientsPerDegree | Relative temperature coefficients per degree | list of number | Required |
| instrumentAlreadyTemperatureCompensated | Instrument already temperature compensated | boolean | Required |
Pair nonnegative EC in mS/cm and temperature coefficients with sample Celsius temperatures. If already-compensated is true, return each EC unchanged; otherwise require positive correction denominators and normalize to the supplied reference temperature.
Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.
reference EC=observed EC/[1+coefficient(sample temperature−reference temperature)] Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |

} Limitations and assumptions
Coefficients are solution-specific and supplied. The tool does not infer nutrient composition or verify instrument settings.
Numeric inputs and returned numeric values must be finite; an unrepresentable returned value produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Stock Solution Nitrogen PPM Target: Invert exact final-flow stock replacement and source-water nitrogen to fertilizer stock mass, assuming stock is made in nitrogen-free water; not DAP nitrogen contribution, solubility validation or a crop dosing recommendation. For a complementary task, use Substrate Bulk Density Porosity: Derive substrate pore water/air partition from measured saturated and drained core masses; distinct from geology porosity inferred from assumed particle density, requiring full wetting and no core swelling.
