Tissue Section Compression Length Ratio Tool

Compare supplied section and positive reference tissue lengths, preserving negative shortening for expansion without diagnostic interpretation.

Description

Compare section length with a supplied tissue reference length.

Histology records connect specimen/cassette/slide identity, section position, image calibration, stain references and evaluable area. Linear and area scales differ, and section pitch is not automatically thickness. Supplied measurements and labels do not inspect tissue, validate preparation or establish a diagnosis.

Compare section length with a supplied tissue reference length.

When to use this tool

Use Tissue Section Compression Length Ratio when you already have sectionLength, referenceTissueLength and need to compare section length with a supplied tissue reference length.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sectionLength, referenceTissueLength. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lengthRatio, fractionalShortening. Use the output convention below.

Require sectionLength>=0 and referenceTissueLength>0; return section/reference and 1-that ratio as fractionalShortening.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Lengths need common units; the ratio may exceed one and shortening may be negative. No tissue behavior, compression cause or diagnostic significance is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile original specimen and processing records with calibrated images and the complete analytical method. Keep evaluable-area, control and section-depth definitions explicit; local ratios, identifier splits and nominal scales do not validate anatomical or diagnostic conclusions.
