Tissue Positive Area Fraction

Normalize an explicitly annotated positive area to supplied evaluable tissue area without classifying tissue or selecting positivity thresholds.

Description

Calculate supplied positive area as a fraction of evaluable tissue area.

Histology records connect specimen/cassette/slide identity, section position, image calibration, stain references and evaluable area. Linear and area scales differ, and section pitch is not automatically thickness. Supplied measurements and labels do not inspect tissue, validate preparation or establish a diagnosis.

Calculate supplied positive area as a fraction of evaluable tissue area.

When to use this tool

Use Tissue Positive Area Fraction when you already have positiveArea, evaluableTissueArea and need to calculate supplied positive area as a fraction of evaluable tissue area.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter positiveArea, evaluableTissueArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read positiveFraction, otherArea. Use the output convention below.

Require evaluable area>0 and positiveArea within evaluable; return positive/evaluable and evaluable-positive.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
positiveAreaPositive AreaRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
evaluableTissueAreaPositive evaluable area, not necessarily the full image field area.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
positiveFractionPositive FractionRequired. Finite number.
otherAreaOther AreaRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The denominator is evaluable tissue, not the entire image; no segmentation, positivity threshold, stain validity or diagnosis is assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile original specimen and processing records with calibrated images and the complete analytical method. Keep evaluable-area, control and section-depth definitions explicit; local ratios, identifier splits and nominal scales do not validate anatomical or diagnostic conclusions.
