Microtome Ribbon Section Index Term Tool

Zero-based ribbon and within-ribbon positions mapped to an explicitly numbered first section.

Description

Return originSection+ribbonIndex × sectionsPerRibbon+position.

Histology counting uses eligible objects, sampled areas, exclusions, and reference planes. The chosen denominator and boundary rules affect the result, while actual object identification and sampling validity require separate review.

Return originSection+ribbonIndex × sectionsPerRibbon+position.

When to use this tool

Use Microtome Ribbon Section Index Term when you need one supplied counting or support component under an explicit protocol.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter ribbonIndex, sectionsPerRibbon, position, originSection. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sectionIndex. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative ribbonIndex and originSection, positive sectionsPerRibbon, and position within a ribbon. Return originSection+ribbonIndex × sectionsPerRibbon+position.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Ribbon index and position are zero-based; a numbering calculation does not establish actual section order, continuity, or specimen identity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the full stereological or image-analysis method and appropriate professional interpretation before drawing a tissue conclusion.
