Trap Night Partial Effort Term Tool

Calculate trap night partial effort term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return full nights plus summed partial hours divided by hours per night.

Wildlife survey effort can use observer-hours, trap-nights, observation windows, or repeated visits. Equivalent effort applies a declared reporting rule and does not automatically correct detection probability.

Return full nights plus summed partial hours divided by hours per night.

When to use this tool

Use Trap Night Partial Effort Term when you need one explicit herpetological survey-effort component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter fullNights, partialHours, suppliedHoursPerNight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read equivalentNights. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative integer fullNights, positive suppliedHoursPerNight, and partialHours within that duration. Return full nights plus summed partial hours divided by hours per night.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
fullNightsFull NightsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
partialHoursPartial HoursRequired. Array of finite number; maximum items 256.
suppliedHoursPerNightSupplied Hours Per NightRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

equivalentNightsEquivalent NightsRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The night definition is supplied rather than astronomical; equivalent effort does not correct detection probability, trap function, or survey representativeness.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
