Single Charge Centering Offset Calculator

Offset actual charge center from independently measured shield centroid, not rectangular-envelope midpoint.

Description

A charge's geometric center can be compared with an independently measured field centroid.

A charge's geometric center can be compared with an independently measured field centroid.1

A vector offset retains direction while its length summarizes distance.

When to use Single Charge Centering Offset Calculator

Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.

How to use Single Charge Centering Offset Calculator and understand its results

  1. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
  2. Enter observedChargeCenter, independentlyMeasuredFieldCentroid, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read result.signedOffset, result.offsetDistance, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
  4. Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.

independentlyMeasuredFieldCentroidIndependently measured field centroidlist of numberRequired

Require exactly two finite components for the charge center and measured field centroid, using one coordinate frame and unit. Subtract centroid from charge center component by component, then return the Euclidean length of that vector.

offset=[chargeX−centroidX,chargeY−centroidY]; distance=hypot(offsetX,offsetY)

Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The field centroid is supplied, not calculated from a shield outline. Charge shape, visual balance and collision avoidance are outside the calculation.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For a related step, use Fess Center Line Offset Calculator: A fess center can be compared with the field's geometric mid-height. For a complementary comparison, use Two-and-One Charge Stack Position Calculator: A two-over-one arrangement places two charges above a single lower charge.
