Shield Shape Era Classifier (heater vs lozenge)

Compare observed shield outline annotations; shape alone cannot date a shield. Feature columns, independently annotated in order: triangular lower shield, diamond outline, independent era provenance. Unknown evidence and compatible classes retained; not automated semantic, historical, identity, legal or safety determination.

Description

Heater-like and lozenge-like outlines can be described with different shape annotations.

Heater-like and lozenge-like outlines can be described with different shape annotations.1

Shape evidence alone does not date a shield or establish provenance. The tool compares supplied binary annotations with a fixed candidate scheme and distinguishes compatible from fully witnessed candidates.

When to use Shield Shape Era Classifier (heater vs lozenge)

Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.

How to use Shield Shape Era Classifier (heater vs lozenge) and understand its results

  1. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
  2. Enter observedFeatureFlags, featureKnownFlags, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read result.compatibleClasses, result.witnessedClasses, result.unknownFeatureIndices, using the output meanings and calculation rules below. Review unknown feature positions and distinguish compatible from witnessed candidates.
  4. Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
observedFeatureFlagsObserved feature flagslist of numberRequired
featureKnownFlagsFeature known flags; binary 1 means the matched observation is known, 0 means unknownlist of numberRequired

Supply exactly three binary observed and known flags: triangular lower shield, diamond outline and independent era provenance. Fixed heater and lozenge candidates require [1,0,ignore] and [0,1,ignore]. Known mismatches exclude a candidate; unknown constrained features retain compatibility but prevent witnessing. The third column is ignored by both candidates, so its unknown status does not block witnessing of shape.

CandidateTriangular lower shieldDiamond outlineEra provenance

lozenge-candidateKnown absentKnown presentIgnored
heater=[1,0,−1]; lozenge=[0,1,−1]; −1 ignores a feature

Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The output concerns outline candidates only. Even a witnessed outline does not establish an era, provenance or authenticity.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For a related step, use Lozenge Armorial Unmarried Convention Checker: Use of a lozenge-shaped armorial display depends on the relevant tradition and context. For a complementary comparison, use Four-Quarter Charge Layout Positions Generator: A four-quarter layout divides a rectangular envelope into two rows and two columns.
