Papellony Scallop Row Counter

Count independently annotated PapellonyScallopunits by rows; retain partial edge units separately, no assumed complete rectangular tiling.

Description

Papellony patterns consist of repeated scale-like units whose rows can end in partial units.

Papellony patterns consist of repeated scale-like units whose rows can end in partial units.1

Counting complete and partial annotations does not calculate covered area.

When to use Papellony Scallop Row Counter

Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.

How to use Papellony Scallop Row Counter and understand its results

  1. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
  2. Enter completeUnitsPerRow, partialUnitsPerRow, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read result.completeUnitCount, result.partialUnitCount, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
  4. Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
completeUnitsPerRowComplete units per rowlist of numberRequired
partialUnitsPerRowPartial units per rowlist of numberRequired

Supply nonempty aligned per-row complete and partial unit counts, each a nonnegative safe integer. Sum complete counts and partial counts separately, retaining partial units as whole annotated partial occurrences rather than converting them to fractions.

completeUnits=Σ completePerRow; partialUnits=Σ partialPerRow

Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The rows and clipped-unit annotations are supplied. No pattern recognition, fractional area or reconstruction of missing units is performed.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For a related step, use Vair Bell Pattern Unit Counter: Vair patterns contain repeated bell-like units that may be cut at row boundaries. For a complementary comparison, use Heraldic Fur Area Coverage Analyzer: Fur coverage is the sum of independently measured fur-region areas relative to the whole field.
