Heraldic Fur Area Coverage Analyzer
Sum independently disjoint measured fur regions over true field area, not fill-area inference from a bounding box.
Description
Fur coverage is the sum of independently measured fur-region areas relative to the whole field.
Fur coverage is the sum of independently measured fur-region areas relative to the whole field.1
Overlaps must be resolved before treating the sum as covered area.
When to use Heraldic Fur Area Coverage Analyzer
Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
How to use Heraldic Fur Area Coverage Analyzer and understand its results
- Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
- Enter independentlyMeasuredFurRegionAreas, independentlyMeasuredWholeFieldArea, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.furCoverageFraction, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| independentlyMeasuredFurRegionAreas | Independently measured fur region areas | list of number | Required |
| independentlyMeasuredWholeFieldArea | Independently measured whole field area | number | Required |
Use nonnegative finite fur-region areas and positive whole-field area. Sum the regions and reject a sum greater than the field area; otherwise return sum/fieldArea. An empty region list returns zero.
furAreaFraction=ΣregionAreas/wholeFieldArea Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Calculated observation or reference | object |
| result.furCoverageFraction | fur Coverage Fraction; dimensionless fraction, not a percent | number |

Regions must already be measured in one area unit and have overlap removed. The tool does not determine their union, inspect an image or identify a fur pattern.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related step, use Papellony Scallop Row Counter: Papellony patterns consist of repeated scale-like units whose rows can end in partial units. For a complementary comparison, use Ermine Spot Pattern Density Calculator: Ermine spot density relates annotated spots to the inspected area.
