Hematology Quality Control Target Deviation Tool

Standardize an explicit hematology control-minus-target deviation by supplied positive SD without applying control rules or accepting a run.

Description

Calculate supplied QC target deviation and a standardized deviation.

Hematology records connect source annotations, specimens, instrument/reagent lots, unit bases and control references. A reported dilution correction depends on whether it has already been applied, while percentage and fraction are different representations. Local quantities and source tokens do not validate a sample, result or blood-product release.

Calculate supplied QC target deviation and a standardized deviation.

When to use this tool

Use Hematology Quality Control Target Deviation when you already have observedControl, suppliedTarget, suppliedStandardDeviation and need to calculate supplied QC target deviation and a standardized deviation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter observedControl, suppliedTarget, suppliedStandardDeviation. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedDeviation, standardizedDeviation. Use the output convention below.

Require suppliedStandardDeviation>0; return observedControl-target and that difference/SD.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
observedControlObserved ControlRequired. Finite number.
suppliedTargetSupplied TargetRequired. Finite number.
suppliedStandardDeviationPositive caller-supplied reference spread; no pass/fail QC threshold is selected.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
signedDeviationSigned DeviationRequired. Finite number.
standardizedDeviationStandardized DeviationRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Units must match; no SD, control distribution, acceptance rule, process stability or clinical result is estimated or validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original laboratory, QC and product-traceability records before combining results. Use the complete controlled method and reporting convention; one target deviation, volume balance or censoring label does not establish quality or clinical interpretation.
