Packaging Dieline Tab Clearance Term Tool

Subtract a supplied packaging tab width from its clear opening width in matching units without fabrication tolerances or fit certification.

Description

Calculate the signed width clearance between a packaging tab and its opening.

Print and screen geometry depends on coordinate scale, placed image size, bleed/inset definitions and pixel transparency. Placed pixels per inch differs from printer dots per inch, and a caller-chosen margin differs from a verified production tolerance. Empty-image conventions and threshold equality affect bounding results.

Calculate the signed width clearance between a packaging tab and its opening.

When to use this tool

Use Packaging Dieline Tab Clearance Term when checking the stated artwork geometry, placement, screen angle or alpha-bound convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter tabWidth, openingWidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.

Return openingWidth-tabWidth as a signed gap in one common length unit.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signed dimensions are accepted; nominal clearance does not establish fold geometry, material fit or a safe packaging design.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect rendered artwork and verified production/device specifications for actual print quality, cropping, fit and manufacturing requirements.
