Description
Validate an ordered inclusive box/folder span with fixed positive foldersPerBox and one-based folder numbers.
Laboratory study records distinguish observations, sample identities, personnel, and supporting sources. Missingness and duplication depend on record scope; a metadata check cannot establish scientific validity or regulatory acceptance.
Validate an ordered inclusive box/folder span with fixed positive foldersPerBox and one-based folder numbers.
When to use this tool
Use GLP Archive Box Folder Span Count when you need a laboratory-record consistency or source-support check.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstBox, lastBox, foldersPerBox, firstFolder, lastFolder. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read folderCount, boxSpan. Use the output convention below.
Validate an ordered inclusive box/folder span with fixed positive foldersPerBox and one-based folder numbers. Use exact integer arithmetic for total folderCount and return inclusive boxSpan.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstBox | First Box | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| lastBox | Last Box | Required. Safe integer. |
| foldersPerBox | Folders Per Box | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| firstFolder | First Folder | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| lastFolder | Last Folder | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| folderCount | Folder Count | Required. Safe integer. |
| boxSpan | Box Span | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Box numbers are zero-based-compatible nonnegative coordinates; boxes are assumed uniformly filled and actual folders, missing records, labels, and capacity are not inspected.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the controlled study records and audit trail for the complete evidentiary chain. Resolve duplicate identifiers, sampling units, and authorization rules before drawing study-level conclusions.
