Archive Container Span Budget Tool

Calculate archive container span budget from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Subtract distinct unavailable slots and count repeated annotations separately.

Laboratory study records distinguish observations, sample identities, personnel, and supporting sources. Missingness and duplication depend on record scope; a metadata check cannot establish scientific validity or regulatory acceptance.

Subtract distinct unavailable slots and count repeated annotations separately.

When to use this tool

Use Archive Container Span Budget when you need a laboratory-record consistency or source-support check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstSlot, lastSlot, unavailable. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read nominalSlots, availableSlots, duplicateAnnotations. Use the output convention below.

Require an ordered inclusive nonnegative slot range and unavailable indexes inside it. Subtract distinct unavailable slots and count repeated annotations separately.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is numeric capacity bookkeeping without physical container dimensions, record condition, storage suitability, or archival completeness verification.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the controlled study records and audit trail for the complete evidentiary chain. Resolve duplicate identifiers, sampling units, and authorization rules before drawing study-level conclusions.
