Description
Sum weights and subtract that sum from targetTotal for remainder.
An index transforms inputs through a chosen scale, reference, or weighting scheme. Its denominator and normalization determine the meaning; a single term or unbounded score is not automatically a complete or officially defined index.
Sum weights and subtract that sum from targetTotal for remainder.
When to use this tool
Use Global Index Weight Remainder when you need one explicit index term or normalization step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter weights, targetTotal. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read total, remainder. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative targetTotal and weights. Sum weights and subtract that sum from targetTotal for remainder.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| weights | Weights | Required. Array of finite number; minimum 0; maximum items 256. |
| targetTotal | Target Total | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| total | Total | Required. Finite number. |
| remainder | Remainder | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative remainder exposes overweighting; weights are not normalized or assessed for appropriateness, and no complete development index is calculated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compute and review the full index using the intended methodology, including missingness and aggregation rules. Perform sensitivity analysis when reference choices or weights materially affect interpretation.
