Description
Return their weighted sum, total weight, and publishedIndex minus weighted sum.
An index transforms inputs through a chosen scale, reference, or weighting scheme. Its denominator and normalization determine the meaning; a single term or unbounded score is not automatically a complete or officially defined index.
Return their weighted sum, total weight, and publishedIndex minus weighted sum.
When to use this tool
Use Global Index Component Gap when you need one explicit index term or normalization step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter componentValues, weights, publishedIndex. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read weightedSum, totalWeight, residual. Use the output convention below.
Require aligned componentValues and nonnegative weights. Return their weighted sum, total weight, and publishedIndex minus weighted sum.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- Weights need not sum to one and signed components are allowed; this does not normalize scores, verify index methodology, or explain a residual.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compute and review the full index using the intended methodology, including missingness and aggregation rules. Perform sensitivity analysis when reference choices or weights materially affect interpretation.
