Gerontology Questionnaire Time Window Overlap Tool

Recall-window duration intersection/union, excluding unobserved gaps from union duration.

Loading tool…

Description

Require positive-length intervals, return their overlap and summed durations minus overlap as unionDuration, then divide overlap by union.

Research time coordinates can represent age, residence, observation, or follow-up. Fixed year lengths and censored intervals are modeling conventions; an unfinished observation supplies less timing information than a completed event.

Require positive-length intervals, return their overlap and summed durations minus overlap as unionDuration, then divide overlap by union.

When to use this tool

Use Gerontology Questionnaire Time Window Overlap when you need an ageing-research interval calculation with an explicit time basis.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstStart, firstEnd, secondStart, secondEnd. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read overlap, unionDuration, overlapFractionOfUnion. Use the output convention below.

Require positive-length intervals, return their overlap and summed durations minus overlap as unionDuration, then divide overlap by union.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Time coordinates share units and touching intervals have zero overlap; this is interval similarity without validating questionnaire comparability, response quality, or clinical meaning.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use actual calendar dates for calendar age and an appropriate censoring-aware analysis for incomplete follow-up. Verify origin, units, and event definitions against the study protocol.
