Description
Return uncovered hours with a zero floor, formal hours times rate, and covered fraction capped at one.
Care research distinguishes supplied care time, required time, and overlap across providers. Their accounting depends on shared time units and on whether simultaneous activities count once or multiple times.
Return uncovered hours with a zero floor, formal hours times rate, and covered fraction capped at one.
When to use this tool
Use Eldercare Informal Formal Hour Gap when you need a care-time or coverage calculation under a stated research convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter requiredHours, informalHours, formalHours, formalHourlyCost. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read uncoveredHours, paidCost, coveredFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require positive requiredHours and nonnegative informalHours, formalHours, and formalHourlyCost. Return uncovered hours with a zero floor, formal hours times rate, and covered fraction capped at one.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| informalHours | Informal Hours | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| formalHours | Formal Hours | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| formalHourlyCost | Formal Hourly Cost | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| uncoveredHours | Uncovered Hours | Required. Finite number. |
| paidCost | Paid Cost | Required. Finite number. |
| coveredFraction | Covered Fraction | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Hours and costs share a period and currency; overlapping care is not deduplicated and requiredHours is supplied rather than a professional assessment of adequate or safe care.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review actual care needs and the complete care plan through the appropriate professional process. Interval arithmetic alone cannot determine whether support is adequate, safe, or suitable.
