Survey Loop Closing Share Tool

Calculate survey loop closing share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Sum vector components for closure, use their hypotenuse for closureDistance, sum individual step lengths, and divide closure by traverse length or return zero with defined false.

Survey vectors and angles require a reference direction and sign convention. North/east/down components, magnetic corrections, and heading labels are coordinate choices, not independently measured or current reference-field values.

Sum vector components for closure, use their hypotenuse for closureDistance, sum individual step lengths, and divide closure by traverse length or return zero with defined false.

When to use this tool

Use Survey Loop Closing Share when you need a local survey-vector or heading conversion from explicit supplied values.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter northSteps, eastSteps. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read northClosure, eastClosure, closureDistance, traversedDistance, relativeClosure, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require aligned northSteps and eastSteps. Sum vector components for closure, use their hypotenuse for closureDistance, sum individual step lengths, and divide closure by traverse length or return zero with defined false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Coordinates use a common planar length unit; relative closure is not an accuracy estimate, survey adjustment, geographic datum validation, or proof of correct station order.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated observations and the appropriate survey reference model. Verify axis order, vertical sign, angular units, and correction epoch before integrating results into a survey.
