Description
Compare lastDepth with firstDepth for increasing and equality for degenerate.
Depth calculations depend on a vertical reference, coordinate sign, and assumed model. A layer or endpoint result is local information; it does not reconstruct the subsurface or establish a complete monotonic profile.
Compare lastDepth with firstDepth for increasing and equality for degenerate.
When to use this tool
Use Borehole Log Reversed Depth Axis Flag when you need a depth or layer calculation under a supplied vertical convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstDepth, lastDepth, expectedIncreasing. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read increasing, reversed, degenerate. Inspect increasing, reversed, degenerate before interpreting the associated values.
Compare lastDepth with firstDepth for increasing and equality for degenerate. Mark reversed only when nondegenerate orientation differs from expectedIncreasing.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- Only endpoints are checked; a nonreversed result does not establish interior monotonicity, actual borehole depth, logging direction, or measurement validity.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full survey and subsurface model for interpretation. Check datum, sign, units, uncertainty, and model assumptions before combining independently derived depths.
