Borehole Log Two Depth Gradient Tool

Calculate borehole log two depth gradient from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return depth gap, second-minus-first value divided by depth gap, and mean depth.

Depth calculations depend on a vertical reference, coordinate sign, and assumed model. A layer or endpoint result is local information; it does not reconstruct the subsurface or establish a complete monotonic profile.

Return depth gap, second-minus-first value divided by depth gap, and mean depth.

When to use this tool

Use Borehole Log Two Depth Gradient when you need a depth or layer calculation under a supplied vertical convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstDepth, secondDepth, firstValue, secondValue. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read depthGap, gradient, midpointDepth. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative firstDepth and greater secondDepth. Return depth gap, second-minus-first value divided by depth gap, and mean depth.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Depths share a positive-down coordinate and length unit and values share a scale; this is one local gradient without interpolation of a full log, calibration, or geological interpretation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full survey and subsurface model for interpretation. Check datum, sign, units, uncertainty, and model assumptions before combining independently derived depths.
