Torus Tube Wall Thickness Gap Tool

Tube wall gap and central-hole clearance for supplied concentric torus tube radii.

Loading tool…

Description

Return outer-minus-inner wallThickness, major-minus-outer holeClearance, and nonSelfIntersecting only for strict major greater than outer tube radius.

A torus has a major radius about its axis and a minor radius describing its tube. Inner and outer radial extents are different from the inner and outer radii of a hollow tube wall.

Return outer-minus-inner wallThickness, major-minus-outer holeClearance, and nonSelfIntersecting only for strict major greater than outer tube radius.

When to use this tool

Use Torus Tube Wall Thickness Gap when you need a torus radius or wall-geometry calculation with explicit dimension meanings.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter outerTubeRadius, innerTubeRadius, majorRadius. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read wallThickness, holeClearance, nonSelfIntersecting. Inspect nonSelfIntersecting before interpreting the associated values.

Require outerTubeRadius at least nonnegative innerTubeRadius and nonnegative majorRadius. Return outer-minus-inner wallThickness, major-minus-outer holeClearance, and nonSelfIntersecting only for strict major greater than outer tube radius.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

innerTubeRadiusInner hollow-tube cross-section radius.Required. Finite number; minimum 0.
majorRadiusDistance from torus axis to tube center, not outside radius.Required. Finite number; minimum 0.

wallThicknessWall ThicknessRequired. Finite number.
holeClearanceHole ClearanceRequired. Finite number.
nonSelfIntersectingRequires strictly positive central-hole clearance; contact at zero returns false.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Tube radii describe material-wall thickness, while majorRadius is centerline radius; equality is treated as not nonselfintersecting. No solid geometry, manufacturing tolerance, or safe wall thickness is validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Construct the torus cross-section and inspect its radial bounds. Use a solid model when self-contact, self-intersection, hollow walls, or manufacturing tolerances matter.
