Description
Return their mean as major and half their difference as minor.
A torus has a major radius about its axis and a minor radius describing its tube. Inner and outer radial extents are different from the inner and outer radii of a hollow tube wall.
Return their mean as major and half their difference as minor.
When to use this tool
Use Torus Inner Outer Radius Crosswalk when you need a torus radius or wall-geometry calculation with explicit dimension meanings.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter inner, outer. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read major, minor. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative inner and outer strictly greater than inner. Return their mean as major and half their difference as minor.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| inner | Inner radial extent from the torus axis; may be zero. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| outer | Outer radial extent from that axis, greater than inner. | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| major | Major | Required. Finite number. |
| minor | Minor | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Inner and outer are radial extents from the torus axis rather than tube-wall radii; inner zero gives a horn limit and no physical model or surface validity is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Construct the torus cross-section and inspect its radial bounds. Use a solid model when self-contact, self-intersection, hollow walls, or manufacturing tolerances matter.
